When I’m writing this it’s 9 days since I gave birth and every day is a true blessing in itself. I love spending time with Pippa and getting to know her as a person, watching her grow and knowing she is my flesh and blood.
I asked Andy to take photos of me for my this blog post and we ended up arguing over his camera angle skills and whether I wanted my feet in the picture. Behind the scenes what you don’t see is Pippa wrapped up in a billion layers in her car seat waiting for Mummy and Daddy to hurry up taking silly photos, the builders watching me from the house opposite and the annoyed boyfriend who is definitely not #instahusband material.
7 days after giving birth, I tried on my first pair of non-maternity jogging bottoms that I had bought for lounging in following the birth for ultimate comfort. I picked up the size 14 trousers and tried them on. They were tight and not that comfy, so my heart was a little dismayed.
The day before writing this blog post, I went shopping with Pippa and my mum for support and tried on clothes in Next and Primark. I came away from Next with a pair of size 16 Jeans and a size 16 t-shirt, from Primark a size 14 blazer. My thoughts on Next were that despite being a new mum, the fashion is still a bit “mumsy” for a girl of 24 years old, but at least I knew where I stood with the sizing. Primark was a lot more hit and miss, and although picking up a size 16 seemed reasonable I often found I couldn’t fit some tops over my boobs and that is kind of a must.
I used to be a size 6/8 and prior to becoming to pregnant with Pippa, I was a size 10. My body has never been this big before, but it has never faced the joy and the challenges of being pregnant either. Whilst learning to love my body as it is now is a learning curve, I would not change it for the world as everytime I feel that extra jiggle or see my body in the mirror, it’s a reminder that I carried my little girl for 9 months and I get to see her everyday.
I do want to eat healthier now and I do want to lose some weight, but I’m not in any hurry. I know that I’m happy and every day I take another step forward to loving that new girl staring back at me in the mirror.
Also I was eating cake whilst writing this so it aint going anywhere any time soon!
